It is the 27th edition — named after the greatest Spanish rider of all time — of the only race held entirely in Navarre on the national cycling calendar. One that has not had an easy path for 2026, due to construction works that had been planned on the Paseo de la Inmaculada, which threatened to leave the race without a finish line.

In the end, the planned route will go ahead, featuring four passages over the Alto de Ibarra, as decisive as ever and located just 1 kilometre from the finish. Before that, four classified climbs will be tackled: Guirguillano (category 1), Lezaun (category 2) and, of course, Eraul (category 2), which combined with Muru — unclassified — will be crested twice, with the final ascent located 10 kilometres from the finish.
