Race description
The race directed until 2020 by David Lappartient, current UCI president, once again features its characteristic circuits — a longer one (five passes), plus another very brief one (eight more ascents for 13 in total) — around the Côte de Cadoudal.
The Plumelec climb, where Alejandro Valverde became the first leader of the Tour de France in 2008, covers 1,800 metres at just over 6% average, with some double-digit ramps. The final straight is gentle and allows even some faster but less capable climbers to survive… if all the previous passes have allowed them to do so.
