For 2026, the Tour de Suisse makes a series of changes that give us a clue on where modern cycling is heading: it sheds as many as four of its nine days -eight in recent editions- to run from Wednesday to Sunday; it features identical starts and finishes across five stages shared between men and women; and -to its good fortune- it boasts, as in the case of the Tour de Romandie, the draw of the man many consider the greatest cyclist of all time, Tadej Pogačar.
The Tour de Suisse will also begin outside the country this time, in the Italian town of Sondrio. A lively opening day with four categorised climbs -Buglio in Monte, Triangia, Ponte in Valtellina and Bordighi-, the last of which crests just before the line. The favourites will already have to race with their antennae up.
