Thursday’s stage in the Ardèche should be the Tour’s clearest opportunity for a breakaway, with all the favourites looking ahead to Mont Ventoux the following day. However, it's so demanding that anything could happen.
Six classified climbs lie in wait, the most important of them Boucleu-le-Roi (Category 2), crested 16 km from the finish. Any breakaway (or GC group) that makes it that far will likely be reshaped on its slopes, which average 5.7% over almost 4 km.
